Week 356: Attuning to Inspiration – More About Fields

For the past couple of weeks, our experiments have focused on the presence of information fields that exist all around us all the time – fields of collective wisdom, experience, creativity and inspiration that are constantly available to us.  They also constantly influence us, even though we may be totally unaware of that fact.

I’ve written in other experiments about how we attune ourselves to particular frequencies – qualities, themes and elements of experience – and how this process causes us to resonate with, or become magnetic to, an increase in those qualities, themes and elements in our daily lives.  Depending on the kinds of activities and information with which we fill ourselves, these fields of information can bring us positive support or increase our sense of fear, lack, sorrow or whatever may be the quality of the “radio station” to which we’re habitually tuned.

For example, let’s say you have a habit each morning of listening to inspirational music, or reading something uplifting.  Chances are that you will tend to stay tuned to that frequency throughout the coming day, or at least have it to return to if something unpleasant happens.  On the other hand, let’s say that you begin your day with bad news, reading or listening to distressing sounds or ideas, or hanging out with whatever worries may be up for you.  Chances are that you’ll go into your day focused on what’s frightening, out of place, or otherwise uncomfortable and, when challenges arise, it may be harder to find a centered landing place during or after the experience.

This is all a way of saying that where we put our attention matters.  And so, for this week’s experiment, I invite you to explore something I’ve suggested a number of times over the years I’ve been doing these experiments:  I invite you to notice where you place your attention, what kinds of psychological, spiritual, recreational and physical “food” you give yourself, what qualities or frequencies you attune to.  I also invite you to notice that the places where you focus your attention play a major role in the quality of your inner life.  They create the filter through which you experience and interpret what’s unfolding for you.

As part of this week’s experiment, I invite you to explore various qualities, to focus on different elements of experience and then to notice what happens.  For example, spend a couple of days giving yourself inspiration at the beginning of your day and notice what happens.  Then, spend a couple of days listening to the news or giving yourself negative or distressing input at the beginning of your day and notice what happens.

Part of living consciously is making choices about the kinds of “food” we give ourselves – the frequencies to which we attune ourselves as we move through the day.  The fields of information that influence us intensify whatever experiences we focus our attention on, and either support or limit us with this intensification of our state of body-mind being.

As you explore the frequencies to which you automatically attune, allow yourself to continue to be curious about the impact of where you focus your attention.  To become more skilled at shifting this focus can be one of the great resources in daily life.  To know that you have a choice about where you put your awareness and how much energy you invest in a particular focus of attention offers you an ever-present opportunity to “change the channel” and resonate with something more supportive.
