723rd Week: Making A Difference, Choice by Choice
One of my daily practices is to post an inspirational quotation and nature photograph to the Facebook page of Devadana Sanctuary and to the Devadana Sanctuary website at www.portaltomdl.com each morning. A surprising gift that comes to me as part of this practice is to be able to look at our beautiful planet at the beginning of each day as I choose the photograph of the day. As I review the library of inspirational quotations that I collect along the way, each morning also offers an immersion in the wisdom of so many inspiring people.
As I prepared the posting for today, I came across a couple of quotations that stuck with me and I want to share them here. They touched me because they speak to the ways in which our moment-to-moment, day-to-day choices make a difference in how we move through our world and in what we contribute—or don’t—to our collective well-being. Here are the quotations that caught my attention:
“What one thing am I able to do that will make a difference for our planet today?”
~ Gratefulness.org
“Quantum science suggests the existence of many possible futures for each moment of our lives. Each future lies in a state of rest until it is awakened by choices made in the present.”
~ Gregg Braden
For this week’s practice in conscious living, I invite you to focus on the many small choices you make during any given day, with an emphasis on how your choices either support our collective and planetary well-being or take away from it. This doesn’t mean to be harsh or rigid with yourself. It’s more a process of bringing into awareness the impact and importance of the quality and focus of our moment-to-moment choices.
I recently read a book I’ll be talking more about over time called “The Gentle Art of Blessing”, by Pierre Pradervand. Through taking on blessing as an ongoing practice, we become focused in the heart’s intelligence and perception and this has a definite impact on the choices we make throughout the day. Offering blessings to everyone and everything we encounter is just one example of how we can affect the quality of our everyday actions. Notice what other practices come to mind for you that support the process of orienting daily choices to the well-being of all.
As with all these practices in conscious living, there is no right way to engage this one. Rather, it’s one more opportunity to become more aware of how your moment-to-moment choices affect the quality of your inner life as well as your impact on your world. Remember to bring along curiosity as your constant companion and to pat gently on the head any judgments that may arise as you engage this practice.
